Frequently Asked Questions

1)  What is the difference between prayer and intercession?

Prayer encompasses your personal relationship with the Lord.  Based on that relationship, intercession is to then petition the Father on behalf of another person, a city or a nation.

2)  What is Spiritual Mapping?

Spiritual Mapping combines historical research and prophetic intercession in identifying demonic strongholds over cities, regions, and nations.  Strongholds are those ungodly belief systems that people believe as truth.  Often these belief systems may be characteristic to a particular area and are in opposition to the gospel being received.

3)  What are the spiritual gifts that are considered prophetic?

There are four main spiritual gifts that are considered prophetic:  word of wisdom, word of knowledge, discernment of spirits, and prophecy.

4)  How do you know if you are a prophetic intercessor?

Usually a prophetic intercessor will have one of the four revelation gifts:  word of knowledge, word of wisdom, discernment of spirits or prophecy that functions on a regular basis as part of their regular prayer expression.

5)  What are the most common prophetic expressions?

There are several:  dreams, visions, impressions, prophetic sense, rhema word, and prophecy to name a few.

6)  What is prophetic Intercession?

Prophetic intercession is discerning the wisdom of God about a person or situation and praying in agreement with the direction the Lord has revealed. This wisdom usually comes through the four revelation gifts:  word of knowledge; word of wisdom; discernment of spirits; and prophecy,

7)  How is Prophetic Intercession activated?

As the group leader sets the prayer point the team spends time waiting upon the Lord to discern God’s heart in how to pray.  Focusing the team in this way will often activate the prophetic prayer flow.

8)  What causes the relationship between pastors and intercessors to be strained?

In a generalized sense, it’s the misperceptions and misunderstandings of how each of their roles are to be valued by the other and how to properly inter-relate that causes the most friction.  (See Chapter 6)

9)  How can I as a pastor better relate to my prophetic intercessors?

Be willing to connect with them and learn about how another part of the body of Christ functions.  Look for ways to build bridges of understanding and a valuing of them as people.  Just like the difference between men and women, neither will ever be able to completely understand the opposite sex.  However, much can be done to learn about how to become more sensitive and honoring to the other.  The same is true with pastors and intercessors.

10) How is prayer for pastors beneficial?

There are a lot of benefits that I’ve addressed in my book, so I’ll just point out the key benefits. There is a strong connection that we can see biblically between prayer and effective ministry.  Prayer is the vehicle in which we see God grant wisdom in how to proceed forward, protect the church in moving forward, and ultimately seeing the God given vision of the local or regional church advance.

11)  How are a watchman and a prophetic intercessor different?

All watchmen are prophetic intercessors, but not all prophetic intercessors are watchmen. Usually a watchman has an on-going sense of the spiritual climate over whatever the Lord has assigned them to be keeping watch (local church, region, state, nationally).  A prophetic intercessor functions in one or more of the revelation gifts when they intercede, but doesn’t necessarily have a prayer burden to keep watch.
